Live Longer with Friends
Did you know that NOT having an active healthy social life is as much of a health risk as smoking and excessive alcohol consumption, and even more deadly than physical inactivity and obesity? In this episode, Mary shares the research findings of POLS’s Social Relationships and Mortality Risk by authors Julianne Holt-Lunstad, Timothy B. Smith and J. Bradley Layton. These findings indicate that the influence of social relationships on the risk of death are comparable with well-established risk factors for mortality such as smoking and alcohol consumption and exceed the influence of other risk factors such as physical inactivity and obesity.
